The Story of Uriah

Hi kids...

Want to hear a bedtime story?

Come, tuck yourself in, as I'm about to tell you an interesting old story that have been passed on to me by my forefathers...

Long time ago...

There was a warrior named Uriah. He was a very brave and strong man. During one particular springtime, he was called to fight a war against a strong Ammonite army.

Uriah had a wife, and her name was Bathsheba. She was a very beautiful lady.

One day, Uriah's king - King David, found out about Bathsheba.

At that very moment, King David summoned Bathsheba over to his room. He asked her to submit to him. Being a lowly servant girl, she had no choice but to obey the King's orders. So, she slept with the King.

Uriah, on the other hand, knew nothing. He was busy fighting the war for the King.

Now the King was scared, he was scared that Uriah would find out. Why? Because Uriah was close to himself. Uriah was one of his 37 chosen mighty men! How can anyone find out about what had just happened? He is the King!

Because he is the king, he had to hide this. So he summoned loyal Uriah back from war.

Uriah arrived obediently. King David's plan was to have Uriah return to his wife and to sleep with her. David asked him to go back to his home.

But Uriah was loyal and faithful. He could not bear to go home to his wife. How could he? His brothers were fighting and he was to enjoy his home and wife? No way! And so he slept at the palace entrance with some of Joab's servants until the next morning.

When David found out, he called Uriah in again. This time, David made him drunk. But again, Uriah did not go home.

King David had no choice but to use his last remaining plan - to get him killed. And so David wrote a letter to his general Joab, to put Uriah in the front line where the fiercest battle were and against the strongest defenders, just so that he could get killed.

Not knowing that he was purposefully sent to his death, Uriah fought at the front line as instructed by King David. How obedient, courageous, loyal, faithful and brave he is! He took every command issued by his king and obeyed.

This is how mighty Uriah died, out of obedience and duty. Not knowing that the King betrayed him, not knowing that the letter he carried was his death instruction, and not knowing that his wife was with another man. But one thing's for sure, he knew that he needed to finish the war.

Kids, mark my words. Be a true frontliner!

'lights off.'
'door closed.'

Good night,
Cyrus.
